Algebra word problem?

An all night trick or treater starts out with 10 pieces of candy in their bag and gets an average of 30 pieces per hour, what is the linear equation for the number of pieces of candy in their bag (call this variable y) versus the number of hours they have been trick or treating (call this variable x) what are the slope and y intercept?

Thanks!

  • The y intercept is 10. The candy they started with. Then the slope is 30/1 for candy per hour.

This would be the equasion in slope intercept form: y=30x+10

Unless the graph is in minutes instead of hours, the equasion is: y=(1/2)x+10
