According to Freud, all male children aged around 3- 4 will develop the Oedipus Complex. This occurs during the phallic stage of development. The complex can only be resolved if the child's negative feelings towards their father are repressed through encouragement from both parents at this stage.
If the complex is not resolved, Freud believes that a person will experience an incongruency in their adult life such as a phobia or depression as a result.
However, this theory like all psychodynamic theories lacks falsifiability meaning it can't be proven to be wrong or right. So I wouldn't worry.
