Breaking into my emails?

Hi,

I have just found out someone is breaking into my and my husbands email account.

What is the best thing for me to do? Nobody seems to know if it's a crime?

I thought it would be some invasion of privacy or something.

Thanks

Jo

Update:

I change my password weekly, she just gets straight back in.

  • This is a very common problem seen here on Answers several times daily. You have been hacked, plain and simple - the clue is that the messages are in your sent folder. It's a bad worm/trojan, not a virus and it's on your computer. You need to download and run a couple of reliable anti-malware programs, especially the most effective Malwarebytes Anti-Malware at http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

and/or Spybot Search and Destroy at http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,22262-or...

    and/or Windows Defender at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamil...

Of course, a thorough scan with a couple of good anti-spyware programs in Safe Mode is an obvious suggestion. Hit F8 repeatedly when the screen first lights up, then choose Safe Mode, using the arrow keys and Enter to get there. Run each full scan in Safe Mode, re-booting into Safe Mode after each scan. Afterwards, delete all System Restore Points. Start > Accessories > system Tools System Restore > delete (small print on left) Create a new System Restore Point after you re-boot into Normal Mode.

Next, Changing your password is NOT sufficient, even though that is Yahoo's advice! Use a very strong password (letters, capitals, punctuation, numbers, symbols - the longer the better.) Start with a sentence, and make substitutions. Be sure the result is one you can remember. Change your 'Secret' Questions and Answers too - ones that nobody could guess - Yahoo even allows you to invent your own questions. Change and add all-new alternate e-mail addresses too.

Carefully read the technical advice given below - they are the best, most-detailed I have ever read. Read them BEFORE you set up a new safe account! Yes, you will probably chose to open a new account:

  • If you use a strong password which no one can guess and no one has access to your computer other than you and your hubby there is only one thing left. Someone has a key logger or external access to your computer. I personally would back up my important data and do a full reinstall of Windows. Good luck.

  • It is in some respect but it happened to my friend and she went to the police. To be honest, they didn't really care. They said she had to prove it but its her worked against theirs. They were also bidding on stuff on her ebay but the police didn't care about that either. It must be someone who knows u pretty well to be able to Access your accounts. so just change everything, even your security questions so something else( even if u write the wrong answer to your first pet...as long as your write it down). Its annoying that someone can be so sad as to do it in the first place. :(

  • goto another pc and change your password there and work from there.

dont go back to the old pc, until you have do a clean install

  • change your password?
