Tetra products or API products?

Which brand do you think is better for freshwater aquarium with plants? Tetra aqua safe plus and safe start; or API stress coat+ and quick start. They are both pretty much the same, makes tap water safe, protective slim coat, and beneficial bacteria, was just wondering which brand you thinks better, and If there's anything else to use besides these. Thanks.

  • I personally respect API more because they certainly make a much better water testing kit than Tetra, but I also have been using Prime made my Seachem in my tank to condition the water. I've also started using Premier by Seachem as a conditioner because I have planted tanks, this is made for planted tanks. The only other thing I put in my water is fertilizer which is also for my plants. The fertilizer is also made by Seachem, and as far as chemicals to put in my tank, I only use Seachem and I always say that less is more. If you don't have live plants, all you need to ever add to the water is conditioner and medicine (as needed).

  • API makes AmmoLock which is a terrible product that inhibits the proper forming of the biologic filtration

StressCoat is ok, as are some of their other products.

Tetra is an ok brand, but is not especially great. They are just a common big brand type company.

I use Amquel and Novaqua for my water conditioners, and hardly ever use any other products because they are unneeded and sometimes harmful especially when you don't really know what they do or why they are used.

note: manufacturers make lots of false or misleading claims about their products

  • I like Seachem's prime for my water conditioner and for my beneficial bacteria I like to use time, mother nature, and seeding from another aquarium.

I don't use any stress coat or protective slime coat. these products just seem like a gimmick to me. Prime is the only thing I put in my water.
