Do you agree: the two party system is destroying us.?

How can we ever put the best person in office if they are forced from the beginning to take sides. They make all these laws inhibiting an independent from running because they do not want the competition. How can we change this disaster of this self-serving two party system.

Also, why is the character of every potential leader dragged through the mud when they all have their own clay feet. None of them have lived perfect lives but they are so judgemental of others.

Why do we allow them to get away with it?

  • So true, I was truly shocked at both my ignorance and my obvious tainted education when I found out the truth about how rigged the political party system is in the US.

To think that in a country that is supposed to the beacon of political freedom that politicians would actually create rules to ELIMINATE candidates from the race. "Sorry, you dont have 10% of the people's vote so you can't be on the ballot."

It is so disheartening to find out these things.

  • I agree with you. Remember when Ross Perot ran, everyone said then that a vote for Ross Perot was a vote for the Republicans. I wish that we would have 4 or 5 parties ruining and have a much better system. The problem is that it costs so much money to run for president that the other parties do not have the funds.

I do not believe that is is the people ruining for office that does the mud, it is the press, and the reason they do it is for ratings and money. The only way to stop them is to give bad ratings and we do not have enough people to do that. Thank you for that question

  • Vote independent! The two major parties put out the propaganda that an independent vote will be wasted. My thoughts on that is that for a view years they may not win and election but if people see a larger trend toward voting independent we might get more people willing to run a 3rd party and more people voting that way.

Big business has always tried to shut the little guy out. Ford and Chevy comes to mind.

  • First off, no politician can rise above community level office by being a Mr. Goody Two Shoes. That's just the nature of the beast in our political system.

Secondly, the problem with the two party system here in American is that you actually have two conservative parties. The Democratic party is not a classic liberal party. It is actually a social conservative party.

The only classic liberal party in the U.S. is the Libertarian party, and they are just a little too far over the edge to suit most people.

  • It is a mess isn't it? I don't like government interference in our lives but almost wish that it was a requirement for all eligible voters to actually vote. Let's say you can't re-new your driver's license unless your vote was registered or if you do vote you get a $500 deduction on your taxes.

And since money is the now seems the required prerequisite for all those on a ticket to get noticed it should be required that they get equal coverage in local news and national news.

I know those ideas are far fetched but several folks that actually care about the people and the U.S. and would do the job that actually needs to be done are just overlooked due to lack of money and lack of people getting out there and voting. Sighhhh....

  • There's plenty of other parties out there. The unfortunate part is that so many Americans feel bound to side with one of the two major parties. Some do this because they feel there is no chance a 3rd party could win; others do this because they fear the criticism that may come with aligning oneself with a 3rd party.

  • These clowns are a product of our culture, not the other way around; we're getting what most of us are willing to take. Change to culture (for the better), the politics should follow. To change the culture is a bigger longer-term task.

  • You have two right -wing parties, who do you have representing the workers, poor, and marginalized? No-one, and please do not say the Democrates, they pretend to be an alternative to the Reps. but they are far from it.

  • I have learned to just recognize it for what it is...trash in October. Reminds me of the saying: "Guns don't kill people, people kill people." The parties aren't the problem, it's the people who are in them.
