how do you capture mini dv tapes onto a windows computer?

i have a sony trv950 (linked below) and i have alot of footage of skateboarding and other stuff of school work and i need to know how to capture it all onto my windows computer, or will i need to get a mac to use final cut. is this just about editing software or is it down to a differnt computer.

    Connect the camcorder's DV port (not USB) to the computer's firewire port (not USB) with a firewire cable (not USB). Put the camcorder in play mode, launch the video editor and Import or capture the video for editing.

    If your computer has no firewire port, then hopefully you can add one. USB won't work. USB-to-firewire cable/adapter/converter things will not work. You did not tell us anything about the Windows computer hardware - we have no way to know if a firewire port can be added.
