Firstly eating foods derived from yeast does not increase your risk of UTI. Also cranberry juice or pills has no effect at all on active urinary infections. There is a little evidence that taken daily it may marginally reduce the incidence of infections in women who suffer from them recurrently. Though the effect is barely clinically significant.
In the case of active UTI it is ESSENTIAL to treat appropriately with antibiotics or risk the possibility of renal damage and permanent scarring.
Taking cranberry pills or drinking cranberry juice may help prevent UTI, but will not cure a UTI. You need to see a doctor, especially if you notice bleeding. The only way to cure a UTI is to take a full course of antibiotics exactly as prescribed by a doctor. You need to take the entire prescription. If left untreated, or if you do not take the entire prescription, the infection can spread and cause kidney damage and other serious problems.
I believe cranberries can help to maintain a healthy urinary tract, once you have an infection it is best to knock it out with prescribed medications. You can also try a diluted drink of water and apple cider vinegar w/the mother from a health food store. A tip: wipe front to back.
You need to see your doctor and get an antibiotic or go to an urgent care clinic in your city and provide a urine sample and get treated. Cranberry tabs or juice cannot treat an active urinary tract infection - they are used to help prevent future urinary tract infections because it helps keep the bacteria from clinging to the lining of your bladder, thus reducing your chances of new urinary tract infections. You need to dramatically increase your daily water intake while trying to get into a clinic to be seen and treated. Also, you can go to WebMd.com and type in urinary tract infection and read up on the causes and recommended treatment for these.
