Pony size catagories?

I'm switching show circuits this year and there are some division changes.

I ride a pony so one division I thought I could add to my list would be pony hunter, but it splits up small, medium and large ponies. It doesn't say how big a small, medium, large pony is.

Does anybody know the heights of the 3 categories? I know the pony I ride won't be small, but I think she could be medium?

Anyway, here are approx. heights of the ponies me and several of my friends are showing.

14.1hh

13.2hh (this is the one I will be showing)

between 13.3-14hh

12.2hh.

So what categories do these ponies fit into? and what are the height min-max for each?

Update:

Sorry about one of the measurements not being clear. The pony is still growing so I will make sure we measure her closer to her first show.

  • The 14.1 pony is a large

The 13.2 pony will need a card to prove it is a medium, but would get shown in the mediums.

The 13.3ish one would go in the larges.

The 12.2 would need the card to prove it as a small but that would be where it would need to show.

The height divisions are as follows:

    12.2 and under: small

    12.2 - 13.2: medium

    13.2 - 14.2: large

I would try to get a card on all the ponies because you will really need them if you are going to show the ponies very competitively. The ponies are so much fun, but there can be a lot of drama so keeps your friends close to you and don't fall into all the stupid crap that goes on. Stay true to who you are and have fun! Good luck showing!

It is a miniture horse, which is a breed of horse. It's isn't a pony. Ponies and horses have different builds and a miniture horse has the same build as a full horse. He probably won't be the worlds smallest horse as he is already 14inches. But he is said to be the worlds smallest NEWBORN due to his birth weight which would be a different catagory. And no, he isn't a stallion. The correct term for a young male horse is a colt. Only after maturity (4 years) would he be a stallion if he hasn't been gelded.

  • A small is anything UNDER 12.2H

Medium is 12.2 to UNDER 13.3

    Large is 13.3 to 14.2

"A" shows measure within 1/8" of an inch and you must have your pony officially measured before you can show in the specific divisions at "A" shows. Local shows usually won't require measurements.

    Good Luck

  • A.) Newborn COLT, not stallion B.) No, he did not come out a full size horse. He is a mini EDIT::: I am aware of what the article says. I am just pointing out that it is wrong. Obviously the writer was not a horse person. Newborn stallions don't exist - that is like calling an infant a man. He is male, but not a man yet.

  • You will be showing a medium pony. The 14.1hh will be in the large pony and the 13.3hh-14hh will be in medium also and the 12.2hh will be shown as a small to medium pony. I'm not entirely sure so it would be best to check with the person who manages these divisons.
