I like to start with a story or theme. Write about a subject and how it impacted you personally. It doesn't have to rhyme at first. Then I try to make the lyrics rhyme but at the same time keeping the integrity of the story. Metaphors are good, too. Just write a line in your own words: (Life is hard without you) and then think of a similarity with something else: (a rose without water and sun)and there's your line; Life without you is no longer fun...I'm just like a flower with no water or sun. (Just wrote that)...
