PS3 Transfer Saved Data?

Im trying to put my saved data onto a thumb drive. When I go to Save Data Utility (PS3) and find the save I'm looking for, I press Δ and it brings up the following options:

Copy ( PS Plus only)

Delete

Information

Am I really required to pay Sony to copy my saved data? What about people who don't have Internet connection on their PS3? This doesn't seem right.

  • You wouldn't transfer the data directly, you would have to back up your saved game data on a memory card, usb drive, etc. and then transfer the data from the memory unit over to the new PS3. If you have created a Playstation Network account, there should be an option under the friends tab to do this, but I am not sure exactly how this is done. Yes, you can upgrade the hard drive on your 20 GB system. There are instructions on how to in the manual somewhere, but make sure that you back up any necessary data on your old hard drive before replacing it. The PS3 does not use any special hard drive, so just about any 2.5" serial ATA hard drive would work.

  • Most saved games can go to a thumb drive but not all. A PS Plus membership would make what you are trying to do FAR easier and you can try out for 3 months. Its only $17.99. With free games and discounts its well worth it.
