I went from 20mg, to 40 and now I'm on 60mg because my body kept adjusting to the dose. But now I find that they really do help and the only side effect iv had is slight insomnia but iv been prescribed sedatives to combat that.
I will warn you though, and your cbt therapist will tell you this also, that it is common, especially in teenagers that for the first couple of weeks on the drug that you will feel worse. I felt incredibly low during the first week or two but persevere because things really do get better.
I'm sorry that you're going through this, but remember that it is treatable and that you can and WILL overcome this. If you need anyone to talk to, I'm right here.
Take care x
I've been in therapy or years and to be honest, it didn't really help either. I understand what you mean. first o all it is a challenge to find the right one for you. people are all different and therapists are just people too and not enlightened by any means. honestly i recommend trying the anti deps. but i would avoid zoloft. i just started on it, after deciding i was tired of wasting $300 a month on therapy that does very little and let my insurance pay or the meds. i heard wellbutrin is not too bad, i tried amitriptyline, but they usually just prescribe it these days for myalgia pain. it was mellow i sometimes felt brainfoggy on it and had confusing dreams that seemed like reality but weren't so that was the confsuing part. whatever you do, stay on as low a dose as you can for as long as you can, that way i you run out or stop you won't get looded with the crazies. that is the problem with these meds. good luck, ask a lot of questions, and like i said try to avoid zoloft, i feel better, but am having doubts about the longterm on this one.
10 mg of Flouxetine is a very light dose. Stick to your CBT which will really help you more than the Prozac. You may not even have any side effects of the light dose of Prozac, though you may experience a small degree of Insomnia and loss of Libido. These side effects if at all, will disappear once you stop the medication.
Prozzac really helped me get out of my depression. I didn't enjoy the side effects but I could function with them, I was started on 10mg and put up to 20 when it wasn't really working. They took me off them after a month or so because my depression is very episodal - I'm not sure if I could of coped with the side effects much longer, but definatly worth a try! For some people they can be awful but others often hail drugs as letting them turn their lives around. Good luck!
