Is a 1970 Chevy Nova a reliable car?

Is there any problems with it? and why did they discontinue it?

How much do you think one is worth today $$ wise?

  • A 38 year old car can still be reliable if it's been well maintained, or it can be a money pit and something to sit in on the side of the road. Get someone knowledgeable to inspect it thoroughly.

If it's a 2 door model, and it's been fairly well maintained, it could easily be worth 6,000 to 10,000. If it's a high performance SS that is in collector shape, it could be worth upwards of $30,000. A run of the mill 4-door that's drivable might be in the 2,500 to 4,000 range. Good luck to you. Classic cars are really neat. My old daily driver was a '72 Chevy pickup that served me well for 70,000 miles, and my current driver, a '77 Vette, has been reliable for over 30,000 miles.

  • Chevy Novas were fine muscle cars. To be honest, a Nova of that age probably isn't a rock solid reliable enough car to be used as a daily driver, unless it has been restored completely mechanically.

The value of the car is contingent upon the condition of it. It is really challenging to say a distinct figure, since we don't know anything about the car, except the make, model, and year.

If I were you, I would have a good mechanic inspect the car first before you buy it. Make sure the car is sound, and is mechanically dependable. Have someone you trust thoroughly go over and through the Nova before you buy it. Maybe the mechanic can give you a ballpark idea on how much the car may be worth. But if not, you can have the car appraised. The only thing is that it may be kind of expensive to have an appraisal done...maybe 100 dollars or so.

You have to look at every single facet of the vehicle in order to ascertain what it is worth. How many owners has the car had? You will want to ask yourself and the current owner some very critical questions.

    1. Why is he or she selling the car?

    2. Has the car even been in an accident?

    3. Is there any flood damage?

    4. Is everything original?

    5. Has there been any body work done?

    6. Are there any smoke problems, or leaks, or any noises made by the engine?

    And so forth.

If the Nova is in impeccable order, and is in beautiful original or restored condition, and gets a 10 out 10 points on a scale of one to ten, then the car may be worth $10,000 or more.

If the Nova is old and worn out, it is probably worth about $1000.

I like the old Novas. But really, it is more of a hobby or show car than it is a daily driver. Good luck!

  • Dragging guy The story of the nova goes way back to the year of 1962 which was the first year of the nova. The last year of the nova is 1979 and the final chevy nova rolled off the detroit assembly line in late april of that year. The car it was repalcing was the new chevrolet citation front wheel drive,it came in its debut in the fall of 1979 but was listed as a 1980 model car.Early to mid 1980's model gm cars of the new front wheel drive turned out to be all junkers, too many complaints doomed them to the early graves a.k.a.junkyards.But to buy any 70's nova is really great and the engineering is top notch.Prices from sellers bring it to the mid 15,000 dollar range thanks to improvements to the engine/ tranny/interior work being done to it.I say go for it dude you deserve the lengendary history about this car.

  • NOPE NOT AT ALL THEY ARE 1 OF THE BEST CARS EVER BUILT AND WILL LAST LONGER THEN YOU ARE ME AND THEY ARE SO DURABLE AND RELIABLE AND DEPENDABLE AND THEY ARE WHAT TODAYS CARS CANT BE AND THATS A GREAT RUNNING CAR AND IF I HAD MY CHOICE I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE ANOTHER NOVA ANYDAY HOPE THIS HELPS AND THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS...............

  • I really don't know. they discontinued it probably because it wasn't selling. It wouldn't even be worth a thousand, maybe around $300 to $50. Maybe even less.
