Depo Provera and other methods of birth control only prevent pregnancy (most of the time). They do not stop menstruation. There are birth control pills that allow for only 4 periods a year (http://www.seasonale.com/). Other than birth control using the extended period dosing, surgery (a hysterectomy) is the only other method to stop periods permanently. You won't die from not having periods (think about it... if women died from not having periods, then all women would die after menopause).
As for the advantages and disadvantages of menstruation, they vary. For women with normal periods (no gynecological problems), the disadvantage is the mess, cramps, and PMS caused by menstruating. The advantage of menstruation is being able to have babies.

I don't know anything about advantages or disadvantages about menstruation.But it is all a part of your life as a woman.Why be afraid of something that is only part of living.You can still enjoy life and be active.And as far as having sex .Why?Too many diseases out there to catch.There has been wild tales about periods for years.Ask Mom or a close relative that is knowledgeble.Not listen to crazy talk going around.
you will not die from not having a period. but womans bodies were designed to bleed so that can mess up your body and make getting pregnant in the future harder. The depo shot is something you get every 3 months at a docs office. it prevents pregnancy but you will still need a condom to protect you from stds. please talk to your mom or local teen pregnancy center. I assume you are young. they can give you free condoms and explain everything you need to know regarding safe sex and your period.
I believe what you saying is you want safety and no period right. If thats it then try the Meridia IUD. It works wonders after 2 months you never really have a period.
