Vauxhall Astra 1.6 16v Twinport - Issues!?
Hi guys..
I will be as detailed as I can.. but I know nothing about cars - only very basic stuff.
I bought an astra twinport (55 plate) 2 weeks ago today. The car WAS brilliant. Very quick pull off, good top mileage and really good handling.. but i'm now having problems with it. At first, the car just went aweful.. would start for a few seconds and then cut out - had to maintain high revs (2000+) to keep the engine going. mechanic came out and said the EGR valve or something had gone, and so replaced it. Collected the car, started to drive it home and its sluggish and doesnt seem to have that intial pull off or the 70+ acceleration.. next thing I know, yesterday morning, the damn thing wouldn't start at all. Mechanic came out again and "fixed" it. I initially had the nice quick pull off and general acceleration but now its gone all sluggish again. I had a non start this morning, again! but then, for some reason it started.
I've heard absolutely great things about this car.. but my god! not even two weaks and im getting trouble.
To add a little more detail.. in neutral the revs bounce above and below 10, the gear change feels messy and bumpy beween 1st and 2nd and its making quite a racket! Anybody walking past would thing I was seriously over revving the car! =/
Any help or advice would be appreciated, as it seems the garage that sold it to me haven't got a clue what their doing. Its always a temporary fix.
Thanks guys.

First thing I'd be hooking up is a vacuum gauge,I'd want to know just what reading it'll give,I've had 2 of these with collapsed internal gasket on the inlet manifold joining faces.
Very tough to find, the composite intake is some shape!
Oh and have s look down the inlet where the throttle body bolts onto. the manifold i've seen these literally filled with oil,a real pig to clean out..
