A Christian's cruelty in response to a serious issue?
A teen asked a question - terrified that she has schizophrenia. Schizophrenics who are not on medications often turn to fundamentalist christianity in search of a way to avoid the brain illness that schizophrenia is. A Christian posted the following answer:
So, You don't believe in the paranormal..you will. No you're not crazy, just an atheist that has to learn the hard way. And please, don't tell me you believe in God..maybe you do but your language proves you don't respect Him, so He has removed your protection..you're seeing the consequences.

I believe that answers such as the above one - suggesting that return to god rather than medication will cure her if she does have schizophrenia - is cruel and abusive. Schizphrenia is a progressive disease that can be controlled with meditation. The longer medications are avoided, the more brain damage occurs.
Does anyone else agree that fundies should be more cognizant of the harm that they are doing when they give DANGEROUS advice like this to a minor?
Update:ANOTHER CHRISTIAN: He was probably an evil spirit. Evil spirits are all afraid of the name of Jesus Christ.
If he appears again, then just tell "In the name of Jesus Christ i command you to begone" or something similar.
It helps more, if you have faith in Jesus Christ, because if you don't believe in Jesus Christ and are in doubt, it will not work.
That's why you better read a New Testament and find faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ, the stronger your faith in Jesus is, the more you will be protected against evil.

Yes, and a couple months ago, while I was struggling to mow my lawn with a cast on my arm from surgery, a couple out-of-town missionaries came by to preach to me that I needed to end my epilepsy medication and turn to God to cast out my demons.
(My epilepsy is well-known here: I am a city councilman in my town and the only person in the county with epilepsy.)
Our town's atheist maintenance mechanic happened to be driving by and saw what was going on, flipped around and ran them off, and mowed my lawn gratis.

I wonder why you call the second a Christian. Christians are not the only ones who believe in spirits... and Christians typically believe that some spirits CAN indeed hurt you (ie: demonic spirits).
Regardless, even the second is hazardous, as if the spirit (assuming that this is a spirit) is willing or able to harm her, it is foolish to tell her that it cannot and have her walk blindly into a bad situation.
The third is pretty bad, but pretty typical (you know, if it is just a spirit "get Jesus, get saved, it'll go away because he'll protect you"... sort of thing).
The first is an example of the most dangerous sort of person. A couple actually ended up losing two of their children, because they got sick (years apart from one another) and the parents refused to take them to the doctor, claiming that God would heal them (and apparently believing that if they had more faith in a doctor to heal their children, than in God, they would go to Hell).
If people want to let their religion turn them into ignorant that's their business, but it's really sad when they have to use their stupidity to hurt or hinder others. The real problem is that most fundie theists don't see anything wrong with their way of thinking, and so they're not going to change anytime soon.

I would not be surprised if that answer was not in fact yours and you planned the whole thing, seeing as atheist View ethics and morality as subjective and it suits your agenda to do so seeing it as the ends justifies the means

Those are some weird answers - except for the one advising the teen to command them to leave in Jesus' name. Can you explain to me what's so dangerous about that?

i am not having full details but understood they were the responses to somee questions- opinions differ------ but saying religion cause harm is terrible.... religion especially christianity is based on faith and more importatly on HOPE it never says that you are punished it say repent and get saved..... it says believe in Jesus one day you will have what you wish.....remeber the UNO song -WE SHALL OVER COME, WE SHALL OVER COME-- SOME DAY---- thats the spirit of christianity

Christianity isn't a danger itself. It's to help you and help you live life to the fullest by trying to learn from the bad and learn from the good. People make Christianity look bad. They like to interpret it into their own form and preach it to people and then those people who don't believe in God blame it on God himself as if its His fault. Guess what? In the Bible it says you choose to live life how you want. You can choose good or bad. You die cause you sin. And just cause you sin doesn't mean you go to hell. God forgives those who truly want to be forgiven. Atheists think they know all the ****. Now that's bullshit.
