so, in a couple of weeks im going for an opp. for braces.
can you guys give me some ideas of what they do on the first oppointment?

First, they will tell you what they will do. They will take x-rays of your mouth and what not. Then they will sit you down and take a molding of your teeth. The only reason you gag is because they push it into your mouth and it's squishy and tastes pretty gross, but you won't throw up. They will then give you an appointment to get your braces in.
For the day you get braces they sit you down.I didn't have to take out any teeth, but many people I know had to. Don't get scared though, that's the only reason I was afraid. They put these plastic..holder type things and tell you to bite down, so that they can reach every tooth and put on a sour like glue. They will stick on the brackets and use a light to dry it. Then when they are done with all of the brackets, you will stay in the chair for a while, so it dries a bit more. After that, they will put the wire in and tie it with the color you want. I would change every month until you find one you like or after that you can use different colors.
If you are wondering how long this will take, it depends on how fast your orthodontist works.
Your mouth will also be sore for a week or two so take advil for the pain and eat only soft things like soup, mashed potatoes, yogurt, smoothies, apple sauce, ice cream, etc.
You will also feel sore after the first few tightenings.
I've had braces for almost 2 years.
Also, be careful on not eating things that are TOO hard, and your braces will bother you at times, like causing sores in your mouth, they might give you a wax(they gave me, but i never use it, even though it hurts) and brush well after meals.
so ill make this as short as possible. The first app. i went to was for the molding and that's no big deal. They just put this clay kind of stuff on your top and bottom teeth at separate time. Usually its flavored. That's all they did the first app. for me.
Then when i went back for the braces, they use this thing that stretches your lips so that they can work on your braces. It might be a little uncomfortable bc your mouth will become dry but i wont hurt. Then they apply the glue and put the braces on. They then use something that looks like a laser with a blue light but I dont know what that's for because you dont feel anything lol. they then put the wires on and for a few days it wiill hurt but just take pain killers and you should be fine. Dont try to eat any hard food, try to stay on soups and liquids for the first few days until the pain goes away. Hope I helped (:
well they take x-rays and then pictured of your jaw. they check your teeth. the wax/mold is really gross and it makes you gag and iv herd of kids who thrown up. its disgusting. they put it in a metal mold and then in Your mouth for like tw minutes. good luck!
My son has braces and he's 11. He did not gag or complained. You will be fine.
