Jeep Wrangler Project?
I would like to buy a jeep wrangler for a project. This does not have to be in good shape because I plan to buy a new engine transmission and replace most of it.
I have looked at Craigslist ebay and all the other online places that I can thank of . These places all have jeeps but to expensive.
Does anybody know where I can find a really cheap jeep wrangler for this project. Thanks

Jeeps hold their value pretty well, so its really hard to find a really cheap one. If I were you and couldn't afford a newer 2003 or newer wrangler, I would look into older CJ7s for the base of a project. The 80s and 90s wranglers were just crappy. And also remember real jeeps have round headlights.
Good questions, shows your really thinking about what you want. ok ready, as far a a basic car can get a jeep or a truck are the basic. so as an amature mechanic and body man, i would stay with a truck or jeep. now does the jeep have a 4 bagger or a 6 in it? next did you test drive it and try to enguage the 4x4? does it have a lift or is it stock? reason i am asking is due to many other factors you may run into. if it is lifted this mean the owner might have trail ran it or mud pit it or rock crwaled with it so this means there are hidden problems that may pop up! one way to chk is to get under it and check for build up of mud and welded patches on the frame!! most frame patch work is done at the rear near the springs and on the front where the steering box is. As far as body work goes jc whitney sell panels to replace what is rotted out for about $150 each side. does the jeep come with a soft top or hard top or just a bikini top? well needless to say it sounds good to me but i do my own work and i am build another jeep from ground up, plus i have about 8k in tools at my finger tips that help me greatly. good luck with what you pick. and if it is the jeep just email me any time and i will be glad to help. also once you do the jeep no other car will match it if you sell it. dont let it slip by some days you might hate it but others you will love it!
Pay attention to forums like http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/ or http://www.ilovejeeps.com./ The members on these forums will post links to used Jeeps that are for sale that have salvage titles.
If you are gutting and building from scratch, CJ5s and CJ7s would make a great project jeep. They can easily fit a 350 cu motor with either a turbo 350 automatic or NV4500 manual. And the CJ models could be barely a rolling chassis because after market frames and bodies are available from many sources, Just be sure to check your local laws as to what needs to happen when you move a VIN plate from one Jeep tub to another. Laws for this process can be a bit weird in a few jurisdictions.
Check out some local Jeep clubs. They are all over the country and most of them have websites and forums where members post Jeeps for sale. Quadratec.com has a link where you can search for local Jeep clubs. A lot of times guys will buy a Jeep with intentions to make it a trail rig and never get to and will sell them off. Realize that Jeeps have low depreciation, I have a friend who just sold a 1980 with massive rust and engine probalemsfor $2000.00.
Hit a junk-yard and look for one that's been gutted but has a good body. Oh, and no square lights. I agree with answer one. Real Jeeps have round lights.
look in a scrap yard they could have one with a blown engine
