Do any insurance companies publish proof of annuity reserves?
Annuities supposedly backed $ for $. Documented?
Question Details: I've heard that aa companies are backed 100% or better by aa insurance companies, and no insurance companies failed to pay even during the great depression. How can I get written verification of the safety of annuities?

Safety does NOT mean they are a wise "investment".
As they generally pay a return of 2-4%, most of the time, they don't keep pace with inflation.
Companies are NOT required to publish proof of reserve. HOWEVER, if they are admitted to do business in your state, your state insurance department office probably has reserve information on file. You could go to the office and look at it.
OR, you could go to AM Best, and get the "financial strength" rating for the company there.`
A lot of times highly rated companies will publish their assets and liabilities, of course you can probably find their financial statements online
it is true that they are required to hold larger reserves than banks
