If you can include links to video tutorials or information

Thanks

  • What exactly do you wish to accomplish? Do you only need to send emails to other's on your network, or do you want to create your own personal email setup, without the use of an external service through an ISP?

If you wish to only send email through your intranet, you can easily do so with your current ISP setup. Even with a browser email service which is free, such as Yahoo!, Gmail, or Hotmail. I sort of think this isn't what you are looking for though, as that is too simple and I am sure you know all about browser email and normal email options. lol

So, what the other members said is true. You would need to setup a mail server, and configure it for your mailboxes. I have never done this myself, and have never worked with a domain or server besides Windows Home Server, and that is on the back burner while Microsoft works out a major glitch with curruption in files stored on the Server when editing is done on those files stored on the Server, by popular and normal methods, and applications.

A good place for you to get an idea of what a mail server is and what it does would be to read Wikipedia's page on the subject, and then look at some of the links on the search results page here:

Here is a Wikipedia page on the subject you may find interesting and which may point in the right direction:

I hope you find the information you need in order to accomplish the tasks you wish, good luck and have a nice weekend.

  • In order for any email client like Outlook or Outlook Express to work you need a email server in the local area network LAN or in the internet.

So try to search in the Google for simple or free email server software and install it in your server or in one of the PC in the LAN then you can configure your Outlook to send/receive mails.

  • Outlook express, Thunderbird, etc. are email clients - you need a server such as SendMail to send the mail back and forth from each PC to one another.

Sendmail is available free - it's open source - it doesn't run on windows however, it runs on unix/linux, solaris, aix, mac os x, etc.

  • It would require you to setup your own mail server, that means using your own smtp or pop servers.
