Someone just sent me photos via email but the resolution is awful, they are so small. If I sync her camera directly to my comp and download the photos myself, will that change anything in photo quality? She sent them to me via hotmail.

If you downloaded the pictures to your computer from her camera the resolution would be exactly what it was when she took the picture.
