How do you become a stewardess?

I was on a plane yesterday, and I was just wondering how to you become a stewardess. Do you have to go to college? How long does it take for you to become one? How much do they get paid? What are the pros and cons about being a stewardess?

  • (1) Low pay to start. in the USA, starting pay is often under $20,000 per year.

    (2) In many countries like the USA, the airlines prefer applicants with college degrees, but it isn't strictly necessary, it just makes applicants more competitive for a job. The airlines evaluate many other things about an applicant besides education, including appearance, personality, professionalism, ability to communicate, ability to remain calm under stress, previous work experience and an ability to learn and follow directions.

    (3) To obtain a job, apply directly to every airline you can and hope you get invited to an interview. It also can be beneficial "job fairs" where they can meet you informally.

    (4) The so-called "travel schools" are unnecessary and more or less a waste of money. All airlines are required by law to fully train all cabin crews regardless of previous training or experience in the industry.

    (5) You must meet the minimum age and height requirements, which varies.

  • You do not need college to be a flight attendant (that is the correct term for stewardess now in out PC world). Apply at the airlines office itself. They are always hiring.

Ask flight attendants for their opinion for the pros and cons.
