How do I program an RCA remote for my T.V.?

My RCA remote will program for my T.V. But, I can't program it to where it will let me change Cable Channels....because when you want to program a remote you choose the "TV" button rather than the "Sat/Cab" button so the T.V. will actually turn on/off when you program....it's very confusing and if anyone could tell me how to program it to where I can change my Cable channels that would be great. Thanks! There is no program button on the remote...and the cable box has no buttons on it.

  • If your RCA Cable box remote is anything like the one for the RCA DTA800B1 then I can see how it's confusing.

First things first, the cable box remote isn't like a conventional programmable remote where you press 'TV' for controlling the TV, then Cable/Sat for controlling the cable box, DVD for DVD etc. What you actually have with this remote is two lots of controls in the same space. So the remote is "live" for controlling the TV and cable box all the time. I think this is where you have been going wrong. You might have assumed you have to press 'TV' to control the TV functions. But this is simply the TV power button which is why the TV switched off.

The TV controls are grouped on the left upper half of the remote. They are limited to just power ON/OFF (labelled TV), Input, Mute and Volume +/-. That's it. It's assumed that your cable box is hooked in to one of the AV inputs on your TV. That's why they give you the AV button, so you can press it to cycle through the AV inputs. If you are using the aerial connection only then you're gonna have to pick up the TV remote and put the TV on the correct channel yourself. There are no buttons on the cable box remote to change the TV tuner channel. If you just want to use the cable box remote all the time then go to a store and buy some cables to hook up the TV AV input.

Programming the remote to work your TV is done by pressing the PGM button.... PGM stands for ProGraM. Once you got it working your TV fine then that's about all you need to do.

The remote's channel +/- buttons change the cable box channel. The 0~9 number buttons change the cable box channel too. All you gotta do is turn the TV on with the TV button, then turn the cable box on woth the 'BOX' button. Next, press 'INPUT' the right number of times until you put the TV on the correct AV channel for the box signal. If you press the volume +/- keys then the TV speakers get louder or quieter. If you press the channel +/- buttons then the cable box channel changes. There's not really much more to it than that. Hope it helps
