No poo friends, how to use essential oils?

I've been no poo for 1 month now. I use just less than 2tbsp of baking soda per cup of water (I'm awful at measuring). I boil the water with salt to remove the minerals and add the baking soda while boiling. I use the same measurements for my ACV rinse. I got my boyfriend doing it with me and he's been just an enthusiastic as me. His only complaint was the smell. Our heads smell like...heads. He decided to buy some essential oils and we tried adding them to our mixtures. This worked just fine for him but sent me back to the days before I learned to boil my water. It's not as bad but I get that nasty waxy feeling again. I tried re making it a couple times and got the same results. I re made it without the essential oils and now my hair is back to clean but it still smells like... hair. Any suggestions? Perhaps I'm supposed to do something to the oil besides just drop it in the bottle?

  • You don;t say what kind of essential oil you are using. The effect you describe sounds more like a vegetable oil rather than a pure essential oil (which are generally not "oily"). Could your "essential" oil be one that is actually diluted in a carrier oil?
