Why do Guatemalan passport photos look fake?
My friend was issued an in-county passport (she is living in the U.S. and obtained a Guatemalan passport from her consulate in Chicago).
The photo of her looks as if an old 1990s color printer printed out the picture and graphics. Is she going to have any trouble using it to board a plane, train, or automobile?

If it was issued in the consulate she wont have any trouble at all, even if the photo looks fake. That's a problem they probably had with the machine in the consulate but as long as she has the right signatures and the right stamps in the passport, she shouldn't have any trouble entering Guatemala although she should also take her US ID too or any other kind of ID, especially guatemalan ID.
If her pictures were taken at the consulate , then that is just the way they are. She does not need to use it to travel by car or train, just for flying at this time. I am sure many other people have passports with pictures just like it. You can actually look very different than your passport picture and do just fine.
Guatemalan passports are very cool! Where did your friend take his or her passport from??
