Problem getting pictures onto a CD?

I am trying to copy some pictures from my pc onto a cd. I have put them all into a folder and have selected the "copy to CD" option. However, I cannot seem to get my cd-writer tray to open.

I am working on an hp pavilion 7945 with XP.

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

    copy the file the way you are copying...after its copied go to the cd drive and click on write these files to cd...cheers
