Plato's greatest work about Socrates as his main character is so misunderstood within translation.
The Greek word Republic means, "politeia" or "The order or character of a political community."
The word "Republic" as was used by Plato, in no way, shape or form, makes reference to, or alludes to, what we think of as a political party.
What Plato does discuss, is the role of justice, a just-man and an Unjust-man, who is happier, within a society ruled by philosophical- kings, where there is a world of poetry, and immortality of the soul.
Kind of like a world of
Kant, Freud and Niche all living together for the better good.
"Res publica" is not an exact translation of the Greek word "politeia" that Plato used in the title of his dialogue: "politeia" is a general term indicating the various forms of government that could be used and were used in a Polis or city-state.(taken from Wikipedia) Plato and Socrates were faced with several modes of government: God-King, Oligarchi, Tiranny, etc. The purpose was to find as better, if not the right way to rule a state.
