Tires problem? Help?
I have an old Toyota Corolla SR5. It's original tire specs should be 175/60/13 but a co-worker gave and installed 2 rear 195/70/15 tires with rims. I recently had my front tires (175/60/13) changed to new ones(195/70/15) but the new tires rubs on the fenders when I make wide turns and u turns. If I change them to 175/60/15, will that eliminate the rubbing on the fenders?
And do you think I was ripped off by Midas? because they installed the two front tires and charged me almost $300 including the oil change and wheel alignment. and then when I found out that it rubs they said that they have to replace all four in order to balance the tire sizes. So, I would be paying additional more for the 2 other replacements. So all in all I would spend 600+ just to replace all of my tires?? Is that justified?
I don't know much about cars! I hate it when mechanics and auto shop people take advantage of that. I should've went to Costco instead.
Help!!

buyer beware is the 1st motto you let a friend?? get you tires for the rear wrong should of gone to a reputable dealer to begin with.and put on the correct size in the beginning not there fault your fault for trying to save a little not its going to cost you a lot you need the facts to start with never try to save where your life is in the balance.check with toyota wha t do they recommend for the proper size and go with that the other things done had to be done anywhy and there price was in line with everyone else
okay you have 195/70/15 on your car now? rite? fronts and rears all the same size? is it rubbing alot? if its only rubbing when your turning then i think the tires are to wide. going with a smaller size will may not work. because they don't make a 175/60/13. if they do i don't know about it. the smallest size down is 195/50/15.
as for the price that sounds about right depending on the brand of the tire. most shop would of told you that your tire may rub before they even do the work.
If it was me i would see were its rubbing and try to roll the finder out of the way. Most time just by bending the fender back a little out the way of the tire it will be okay .
Midas didn't rip you off. They only did what you asked. Your first mistake was the co workers tires. If you want bigger tires modify your fenders. Midas could have suggested they might rub to you but would you have listened or told them to go ahead anyway? At least you know about cars now then you did before this happened.
If they rub real, real bad change to the 175s. If it just kinda rubs forget about it ,it's not going to hurt any thing unless you are going to be going in circles all the time. putting the smaller tire on the front will lower it some what but it will still look and handle ok.
I agree w/ Spongie. Midas wasn't the one to cause the problems w/ the tires. The did what you asked them to do. There is a reason why tires come in sizes. Now you see why you cannot use a different size other than your factory recommended. Unfortuately, for you, this is a costly lesson to learn.
yes i believe you were ripped off, because they should have put on what the manufactory calls for.probably they didnt have the right size so they stuck you with any thing so they could get your money.next time go to a tire shop that handles in nothing but tires.
they will be narrower , but may still rub due to off space of wheel if different. if they take them off they cant resell for new tires... make sure you know what you are buying- do research don't just assume , you didn't give the brand of tire to say if you were riped off
