3800 series 2 swap gbody 79 Monte carlo?
My Monte Carlo had the original 231 v6 also known as a 3.8. I was wondering if the 3800 series 2 from a 90 s firebird or camaro would be a direct fit. Will I need new motor mounts or fabrication work done? I know the 305/700r4 is a direct swap with 305 motor mounts but I m just asking about the 3800 series 2 incase that s the way I want to go. So don t say "that s stupid just go with a v8" its my car so go lick a lemon. I know the series 2 came with the 4l60e and I will require a new transmission member for it. I ve been reading on forums but no one talks about a rwd 3800 series 2 swap. Everyone talks about the fwd 3800 s/c series 2. Will I have to shorten the driveshaft? My 79 Monte Carlo has the 231 Buick v6 mounted to a th350. Thanks for the help!!

Same engine so it should be no problem. The front wheel drive version of the 4L60 is a 4T60. The L is for Longitudinal like for a Camaro. The T is for transverse like on a front wheel drive Impala. Since you already have a transmission with a TV cable (for kick down) a 4L60 will not work for you unless you want to go to the trouble of putting in a control module. Get a 700R4 from a Camaro or S-10. Then you will be doing just fine. Only thing left might be just cutting or lengthening the drive shaft.
