  • You've left out much critical information for a definitive answer, but I have one of those Magnavox DTV converter boxes from before June, 2009 and went to storage to look at it, so I'll make several assumptions.

First, I assume it is the DTV converter box that is Magnavox, not the TV.

Next I'll assume that you have the converter connected to your TV by RF (Radio Frequency) coaxial type cable (from an antenna), right?

My final assumption is you've connected the A/V cables from the PS3 (proprietary connector on the PS3 end, Yellow Composite video and Red/White stereo audio on the TV end) to the converter box, which has these color connections, right? This is your error and issue.

Those connections on the box are Output Only. They are to feed the converted OTA (Over The Air) digital signals to the analog ones your older TV needs, via A/V cables instead of Coaxial. So you are connecting two Outputs (Out from the box and Out from the PS3) - which gets you nowhere. An Output needs to be connected to an Input for desirable things to happen.

What you need to do instead is connect those Y/R/W cables to the same color inputs on your TV, not the converter box, then select Video instead of TV (which is on Channel 3 or 4 for the Converter, right?) from the Source (aka Input) menu with your remote control.

IF your TV has no such Y/R/W inputs on the back (or front on some models), you need to buy a Modulator - a device which changes the Video and Audio signals into an RF signal your TV can use, like this:

There are many other such devices - search [rca to rf modulator] to find them - even your local electronics store might still have them in stock (like Radio Shack for example, or maybe Walmart's electronics dept.).

A cheaper option, if you have one, is: a VCR can perform the same Modulator function. VCRs have Composite Video (Y) and stereo audio (R/W) inputs and output RF (again on Channel 3 or 4) as well as A/V.

With either of these solutions you will have to be switching the cables from Converter Box to PS3 box/VCR, so you can get an RF A/B switch like this:

    http://www.amazon.com/RCA-VH71-Slide-Switch/dp/B00...

There are others of these to search for also. Hope this is what you meant and it helps you out - if not, write back with Additional Details and we can try again, OK? Good luck!
