It depends what you want to set up exactly, but presuming it is for your own website and you just want to sell a few items, you can create paypal buttons which can be inserted on your site.
If you have lots of items you want to sell online then you could consider setting up an ecommerce site using something like zencart or OScommerce. You can then link your shop to your merchant account, or to your paypal account.
If computers aren't really your thing or if you dont have time then you could get it done by experts.
I was wondering exactly the same thing as I was setting up my own business during the summer.
I discovered that Paypal is an expensive way of doing it and was warned off using it for that reason.
So, having opened a HSBC Business Account, I asked the adviser who opened the account for me what I could do.
Basically what I now have on my website is a link to a booking form or order form. Once the client completes the form they click 'submit' and it comes through to me. I confirm receipt of their booking/order and send them an invoice quoting my business account's sort code, account number and company name as it appears on my company cheque books etc. I also give them a reference name/number which I ask them to quote when they pay so that I can easily track their order.
And that works for me as I only get between 2 and 8 orders per day so it's easy to operate but if you have high volume orders that method would not work as you won't have time to personally reply to every order.
There must be other ways of doing it but that's what I do.

I hope that helps.
Nah, you use PayPal or similar [1]. It's got to be https [2] and that costs a lot of wonga.
Alternatively, you get people to post cheques/checks. Or get a bank account that allows you to take their card details over the phone.
