Removing a BIOS password?

Okay, I bought a laptop from a guy on craigslist that had a busted screen. I got it for cheap because of the screen being broken. So after replacing the screen I found that there was a bios password on this computer. Im actually aggravated right now, I can only find 3 solutions for this and Ive already tried them. I removed the cmos battery and held the power button down for 10 seconds. Then i let it sit for a while before i turned it back on, but that didnt work. I tried the backdoor password "Dell" that didnt work. I took the code from the computer after you enter the password 3 times wrong and put it into some software I found online. It generated a password that... didnt work. Ive been at this for a couple days now trying the same 3 solutions all kinds of different ways and im pretty irritated. Dell definitely doesnt wanna help, I already called. So what do i need to do to reset the password? There must be some jumper on the board that im unaware of that i can short out and clear the password. Ive looked all over online but i cant seem to find anything. Its a Dell inspiron 1525, model: PP29L.

Anybody?

  • Hi Z012495,

I understand your concern and apologize for the unpleasant experience.

When the system prompts for the password, do not type anything. Hit Enter once and see if you are able to log in to system.

If the issue persists, we can try a master password to unlock the system.

You may send me an email with the system service tag and details about the original system owner (Under whose name system is registered, Phone#, complete address with zip code). You may send me an email at: [email protected]

Once I have the details, I will be able to assist you in a better way.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chinmay S

  • On the motherboard you should have a password reset jumper that you can bridge while booting to reset the password, otherwise you are pretty much out of luck. Whatever you do I can't see a way around this without taking the computer apart.

    This may prove helpful.
