do i need a crossover?

hi, i'm going to up my whole system at some point in my vauxhall corsa (ie add subwoofer, amp etc) but at the moment i am just putting in some new speakers as the old ones were damaged. i have bought some tweeters and front main speakers and am currently installing the tweeters. they can with a crossover box and am i don't know if i should install it or not. if there were tweeters there before surely i dont need it as there would have been one before.... should i install it and risk having two (what would be wrong with that?) or just leave it? bearing in mind i will add a sub and amp in a month or so... thanks :)

  • it's possible (and likely) the stock tweeter had an inline capacitor serving as the crossover. Those small caps are often attached directly to the speaker so you may not have noticed it when you removed it.

There wouldn't be any harm in using the supplied crossover if there is already one up the line somewhere, but if there's NOT one up the line, and you DON'T use the one supplied the tweeter will be damaged.
