wordpress.com vs godaddy?

So I am trying to make a website to market myself better to potential employers. Unfortunately, I already bought a domain with godaddy, but I am having second thoughts now. With the free hosting, there are so few options! It is not possible to use wordpress for hosting unless you pay a monthly fee. I do not want to pay a monthly fee (unemployed) but I would like my website to look nice. So I am wondering if you get all the wordpress functionality by registering with wordpress.com instead and not have to pay a monthly fee. Just the initial annual fee of registering it. I tried to look this up online but it was not very clear. Thanks in advance! I really appreciate it. PS, I already spoke to a godaddy representative who said if i get a refund on my domain registration they won't have it back in circulation for 60-90 days. I'm ok with this, no need to inform me! :)

  • A free website at wordpress.com can't give you all the functionality, not the freedom to add any new features. So, if you are looking to create a business specific site, then you must go for paid hosting. You may create your website at wordpress.org using wordpress' paid hosting, this will give you a free cms support and you can also install free wordpress plugins for better functionality of your website

  • If you use free hosting, you will be giving up some functionality. You simply aren't given the permissions needed to do certain things.

You may wind up with a dog slow website.

You may wind up with someone else's ads on your site.

It's very difficult to get a free site to rank well in search engines.

    No support to speak of.

Limits on what you can do design wise.

You may end up with a banner somewhere that says something like "Get your own free site!"

If it were me, I would not use a free site to "market myself."
