If you've stretched properly (slowly and with the right tools), your ear will first of all NOT look like an asshole, it will look nice and smooth, and it will close up a fair deal if you take your jewelry out. Don't expect stretched ears of an inch to close completely, but it depends on the person. Some only stretch to 4 gauge and it never really closes, some stretch up to half an inch and it closes pretty much all the way.
The better you stretch (meaning slow), the bigger the chances of them closing up.

Stretch slowly (one size, wait at least a month; it is worth it!!!!), don't wear tapers as jewelry, and try to avoid acrylic and silicone. Titanium is the best, but surgical steel is great too. they do close up. i think after like 00 they don't close.
