car problem-mechanical?

I have a 2004 Chevy blazer with 90K. I was driving on the highway to work and went just over 60mph and heard a whooping sound that lasted for a few seconds, but as I slowed down, the sound stopped. I didn't get a chance on the way home to pick up enough speed to hear the sound again. I did notice that the car seemed to hesitate a little today when I was accelerating-like it was being pushed to go faster. I don't think I'm explaining it right, but any input on what problems I could be facing would be great. thanks!

Update:

muffler still there. I failed to mention my mechanic said I'm going to need a new catalytic converter in the next few months. but I feel like this "whooping" sound may be something else

  • Next time close the all windows before you get on the freeway. That noise was air oscillating in and out of the car. Aerodynamic designs cause that phenomenon. You don't need a catalytic convertor. They want to sell those to everybody with worn-out spark plugs. A new set of platinum-tip spark plugs will have the car running like it should, and for good measure put a clean air filter in and throw out the dirty one. They saw you coming, but you know better now. Slap those fools for me.

  • check to see if you still have a rear muffler
