  • It is not. Success does not depend on the competitor's athletic physical skills.

To prove this, the competitor does not necessarily have to be the one making the physical moves. The competitor can make the decisions, and tell somebody else to move the actual pieces, and the result will be exactly the same. Even if you remove ALL physical tasks for the competitor, the result will not change.

It is, however, a game that is highly competitive, and depends greatly on the competitor's mental skills.

That said, the word "sport" depends on physical skills. Chess is not a game that uses any physical skills at all. A very admirable game, but not a sport.

  • customarily, a game is a pastime of potential or concepts-set performed via greater than a number of persons in opposition against an opposising team....So definite, Chess is a game. Chess got here out of the medieval instances initially as a gadget to tutor stratgy to noblemen in service...

  • Sports about exercising the body. Since chess exercises the mind it is a sport.

  • In my poinion the only true sports are hunting and fishing, everything else is a game.

  • don't think you'd have a whole stadium around a chess match, verses a college football game

  • i am a sport.

  • it says so in wiki

  • no, it's a game.
