Please help, Do you know how to convert 2mm to 2um?

One of my questions ask:

Assume the diameter of the field of vision in your microscope is 2mm under low power, if one rod shaped bacteria is 2um long, how many bacterial cells could fit end-to-end across the field?

Do you know what I'm suppose to do to answer this question and can you please tell me how you did it. thank you!

  • mm is for milli meter = 10^ -3 meter.

and um is for micrometer = 10^ -6 meter.

    So we get, 2mm = 2 * 10^ -3 Meter.

and thus multiplying with 10^ -3 we get = 2 * 10^ -6 meter. it is micro meter.

    Converted.

  • 1mm = 1000um

So if you have a field of view of 2mm (2000um) than you can fit 2000um / 2um bacteria end to end. Thus you could visualize 1000 rod shaped bacteria in your field of view.
