How do you transfer data from your phone to you computer with a microSD card?

I put the microSD card into my phone.

I downloaded the USB software onto my computer.

I connect the USB cable to my phone.

I then connect the opposite end into my USB port on my computer.

After doing all of this nothing pops up and tells me it's connected. I also can't find my pictures that I want to transfer to my computer.

HELP ! :( This is VERY frustrating and nothing I do is working. Please give me good, correct, easy-to-follow answers. Thanks!

    Try a card reader. It will plug into your computer's USB port.
