Teens: USA Grades, Help?

I am very confused at the moment. I live in the UK so we have,

Reception- 4/5

Year1- 5/6

year2- 6/7

Year3- 7/8

Year4- 8/9

Year5- 9/10

Year6- 10/11

----------------Move up to high school-------------

Year7- 11/12

Year8- 12/13

Year9- 13/14

Year10- 14/15

Year11- 15/16 y.o

But in the USA you have Grades and Kindergarten, So how old are you in each Grade, and what grades are you in in 'Elementary school' & 'Middle school' & 'High School.'

I am extremely confused (;

Thanks.

  • kindergarten - 5-6 (and some states allow 4)

    1st - 6-7

    2nd - 7-8

    3rd - 8-9

    4th - 9-10

    5th - 10-11

    6th - 11-12

    7th - 12-13

    8th - 13-14

    9th - 14-15

    10th - 15-16

    11th - 16-17

    12th - 17-18

for the most part grades kind-5 are in elementary, 6-8 are in middle school, and 9-12 are in high school,

but it depends from city to city,

and the ages above are based on a person starting kind at 5 and not getting held back in any grade

  • Elementary school is usually grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. Sometimes schools have Primary which is Kindergarten through 2nd then Intermediate which is 3rd through 5th. Middle School is usually 6th grade through 8th grade. High School is usually 9th grade through 12th grade.

    Elementary School

Kindergarten- 5 years old to 6 years old

    1st grade- 6-7

    2nd grade- 7-8

    3rd grade- 8-9

    4th grade- 9-10

    5th grade- 10-11

    ------------------------------

    Middle School

    6th grade- 11-12

    7th grade- 12-13

    8th grade- 13-14

    ------------------------------

    High School

    9th grade- 14-15

    10th grade- 15-16

    11th grade- 16-17

    12th grade- 17-18

Sometimes the ages vary if you've been held back or something. Also, sometimes 6th grade is in Elementary school. Hope I helped!

  • Elementary:

    Kindergarten - 4/5

    First Grade - 5/6

    Second - 6/7

    Third - 7/8

    Fourth - 8/9

    Fifth - 9/10

    Middle School:

    Sixth - 10/11

    Seventh - 11/12

    Eighth - 12/13

    High School:

    Ninth (Freshman) - 13/14

    Tenth (Sophomore) - 15/16

    Eleventh (Junior) - 16/17

    Twelfth (Senior) - 17/18

  • Elementry School

    Kindergarden 5-6

    1st grade 6-7

    2nd grade 7-8

    3rd grade 8-9

    4th grade 9-10

    5th grade 10-11

    Middle School

    6th grade 11-12

    7th grade 12-13

    8th grade 13-14

    Highschool

    9th grade 14-15

    10th grade 15-16

    11th grade 16-17

    12th grade 17-18

  • Elementary School-

    Pre School (Optional)-3/4

    Kindergarten-4/5

    1st Grade-5/6

    2nd Grade-6/7

    3rd Grade-7/8

    4th Grade-8/9

    5th Grade-9/10

    Middle School/Junior High School-

    6th Grade-10/11

    7th Grade-11/12

    8th Grade-12/13

    High School-

    9th Grade (Freshmen)-13/14

    10th Grade (Sophomore)-14/15

    11th Grade (Junior)-15/16

    12th Grade (Senior)-16/17

But Then Of Course If You Failed/Skipped A Grade Or Started School Early/Late The Ages Would Be Different.

They Could Also Be A Year Higher, Depending On Your Birthday. For Example You Could Be 14 In 8th Grade.

And You Don't Have To Go To Pre School

  • Pre-kindergarten (Pre-K): 4/5

    Elementary School:

    Kindergarten: 5/6

    1st grade: 6/7

    2nd grade: 7/8

    3rd grade: 8/9

    4th grade: 9/10

    5th grade: 10/11

    Middle School:

    6th grade: 11/12

    7th grade: 12/13

    8th grade: 13/14

    High School:

    9th grade (freshman): 14/15

    10th grade (sophomore): 15/16

    11th grade (junior): 16/17

    12th grade (senior): 17/18

  • Pretty basic:

    ------------Elementary School----------------

    Kindergarten -- 5/6 years old.

    1st grade -- 6/7

    2nd grade -- 7/8

    3rd grade -- 8/9

    4th grade -- 9/10

    5th grade -- 10/11

    -------------------Move to middle School-----------------

    6th grade -- 11/12

    7th grade -- 12/13

    8th grade -- 13/14

    ------------------------Move to High School--------------

    9th grade (also known as a "freshman") -- 14/15

    10th grade (also known as a "sophomore") -- 15/16

    11th grade (also known as a "junior") -- 16/17

    12th grade (also known as a "senior") -- 17/18

After that, you could go to college, if you wished.

Anything before kindergarten is typically known as "preschool" --you usually start that about 3/4 years of age, until you go to kindergarten.

ADD: Just to clarify a bit more--"middle school" is sometimes also called "junior high school". . .and sometimes 6th grade is grouped with elementary school, and/or 8th grade is grouped with high school. It just depends on the individual district's way of doing things.
