Borrow a car from a dealer?
Hi again,
Yesterday I posted a question about 2 cars I wanted to buy. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqqFR...
Anyways, I am leaning more towards the civic (which is actually an LX, not a SI like I originally posted).
I just called the honda dealership and got them to send me a carfax for the civic this morning and it just arrived a few minutes ago. I know that a clean carfax does not guarntee the car was not in an accident. I was wondering if it is possible to borrow cars from dealerships for a couple days to test it out, take to a shop for inspection, etc. Thanks guys.
Update:The reason I want the car for a couple days is because I know there are things you will never see in the 20 minute test drive I had last time I bought a car. The last car I bought I never would have guessed that the gas tank was rotted from the top , the drivers door would not open with the key, one wiper was broke (sunny during drive). The dirtiest trick that this guy pulled was having the car running for me before I got there so the transmission warmed up. As long as the transmission was warm, the car wouldnt grind into gear which I didnt notice until after I bought it. Salesman are dirty, and I know this from bad experience. I want to know exactly what im buying this time.

== finding a car that you like is hard enough == just do not get too chummy with the saleman ===and asking is reasonable ,,, I bought a GMC Suburban ,,, found it on a Saturday morning and drove it home and never took it back to the dealership ___ made the deal on Monday and on Wednesday signed the papers and I had my Sub and never went back to have anything fixed.. My wife drove me to the dealer on Wed. and that's when I took our third car back to our house ... If you have a relationship with the dealership then you can work with them and deal and have a car out for inspection.....
Typically, you can only test drive a car. The dealer may allow you to have it inspected at an independent auto shop but it shouldn't take more than one hour. You should check with the dealer and why would you want a car for 2 days, that is a huge liability for you.
Nobody is going to give you a car for a few days but any reputable dealer will allow you to take the car for a few HOURS to have it inspected.
Make an appointment for the inspection, drive it over, wait on it and drive it back. The inspection process shouldn't take more than 2 hours to complete.
Some dealers will. A lot of the time it depends on the size of your city, where you work and live. Ask the dealer, it's not an unusual or unreasonable request.
