'95 to '01 are often best choice. But, explorers before that are swapped in also for a less apparent reason. Your Ranger (excluding X models) has 28 spline axles. Explorers have always been a more robust 31 spline. Still have to change spring mounts and frame attachments. In case of older, still have to buy a disk conversion kit, or retro fit something too. Cheapest & easiest overall would be 95 - 01.
