Is my dojo (Z Ultimate Self Defense Studios) a mcdojo?
I have been training at Z Ultimate Self Defense studios for about a year now and I just earned my purple belt. My friend has been training Brazilian Jujitsu for 5 years and he kicks my *** every time. I am 16 and have gotten into my fair share of fights and I always feel I have not been being taught properly how to fight, sparring and on the street. So because of my last test I have become skeptical. I have been researching and have come across the term "mcdojo". And many of the the things described line up. My dojo offers a black belt club for some outrageous price, there is a girl who is about 7 with a green with brown stripe belt, the tuition is about 170$ a month and belt test prices are 75$+. I'm almost certain Z Ultimate is a mcdojo. I signed up expecting to get my butt kicked, working hard every class and progressing through the ranks very slowly. I want to continue in martial arts but I am conflicted about which form I should take. Any advice would help!! Thanks!!

Yes, Z Ultimate is a McDojo. They were founded by some people (led by a guy named Paul Taylor) who used to be with a school named United Studios of Self Defense. When Z Ultimate was formed, they made a bunch of false claims, like how supposedly Charles Matera (the head of USSD) had retired (he didn't) and that they were USSD's legitimate successor (they're not).
Z-ultimate Self Defense Studios
how is one year of training and 5 years of training equivalent?
do you train the same number of hours a week that he does or does he train more
you are comparing apples and oranges, you dont even have close to the same experience
ignore ! and his second account alexx they never trained in there life and no nothing of martial arts

@ !, he didnt say he was taking bjj, his friend took bjj and was a purple belt after 5 yrs, can you read, you should learn to read
Really and which site did you base your opinion on the one in California, the one in Illinois, or the one in pa.
Do you know which one he goes too.
You clinked on the first site you saw with that name thinking he goes there and don't even know for sure.
I didn't offer an opinion because I don't know which one he is going to or if they are the only 3 that go by that name.
also now that i see it is a franchise i would say avoid it, franchise are usually mcdojo's, and this one was sued at one point which is not favorable for for them
@! i know women that back in the 50 to the 60's would do full contact fighting in the men's division since there was no women division back then
and again he states she is a green belt with a brown stripe that doesn't mean crap
im saying you and your other accounts are nothing but trolls, you sat there for over a week with your multiple accounts picking your answers as best and nothing else regardless of the truth. your nothing but a fraud, giving out complete bs for answers,
You completely twisted what he wrote and barely read the question. You think the girl was a brown belt when she was not. You think he trained in bjj when he didn't
why a purple belt in karate would fight a purple belt in bjj, because people are not bright. read the question he thinks a yr of training is equivalent to 5 yrs too. and doesn't get why he lost, with a 4 year span in training difference.
Yes, they are McDojos.
George Pesare trained in Kajukenbo for about 6 months, learned 2 katas and about 15 defenses against punches. He started teaching soon afterwards. One of Pesare's Black Belts is Nick Cerio. Nick Cerio trained Fred Villari. The USSD schools were developed by some of Villari's students. And Z Ultimate Self Defense Studios evolved from USSD.
I have seen the local Cerio/Villari people train. They are having a lot of fun, but I don't think they can actually defend themselves in a real street fight.
Would you want to continue training in a martial art that descended from someone who trained for about 6 months in a legitimate martial art?
Wow!
Z Ultimate Self Defense Studios-has the smell of snake oil about it.
A black belt club? What style would that black belt be associated with? Z Ultimate Style of Snake-oil?
Read this then go find a good place to train. Hint: martial arts are not taught in studios, that is dance. Dojo, dojang, kwoon, are places of martial training. Go to studio to dance or paint.
When you decide to begin training in martial art you have some questions you have to answer for yourself. Are you looking for a sport to play, an art to dedicate a lifetime to, or a quick fix method of self defence? Some combination of that perhaps? Most of us are, or were all three at times. Where do your priorities lie? You must first decide martial art , or fighting sport. The two are worlds apart, although they overlap in several areas, their mindset, and intent are opposite. You have to know also what is available to you. If you have Uechi-Ryu, and Bak Mei in your area, wanting to do TKD would not help you. Of the available options you must decide which one(s) interest you. Then you have to decide (take your time, it's important) which available instruction is the one for you. You can change or quit if you don't like it, but better to stay with the program right through (providing the program is a good one) for the best training. Style-hopping has in my experience cost many a martial artist their potential, so choose wisely, nobody here can tell you what to do for you. So do your homework well. Talk to instructors and students, watch classes, take 'free introductory' classes, make your decision. One more thing, good luck
EPAK has been trampled on by clowns who make up their own way. This is an example. It's a mcdojo. Edit: USSD is a mcdojo too. Shaolin Temple in China has nothing to do with USSD and would find it pathetic to be involved in this BS dispute between two frauds.
Yes just went to the wbesite and about died laughing because it is the definition of a McDojo. And what are you a purple belt in? Not BJJ right? That should take around 5 years to get. Get away from the McDojo and go ahead and find a good Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym or an MMA gym and train there.

Ummm... So you're saying that getting a purple belt in BJJ in a year is perfectly normal? Have you ever trained sir?
So he failed to specify what his purple belt was in. Still have you been to the website? Looks like a McDojo for sure. But you won't agree because you have to disagree with me no matter what. Even if it means this poor wretch will train at a shitty place because of you told him.
I checked on like four different sites. All look like McDojos plus the fact that a little girl has a brown belt should be enough to say so. Keep hating though just because we've disagreed in the past.
Plus who the hell is Alexx because he is not my second account.
Wow so now you're saying i was right after all
I train BJJ I assumed a purple belt talks of BJJ. Brown stripes on green belts to me mean a dirty belt. Big deal I'm no expert on belt stripes. Plus without specifying what type of MA he does and he says that he went against his friend who did bjj wouldn't it make sense that he did it too. Why would you fight a purple belt in BJJ if you're a purple belt in karate or something? It doesn't make sense so I drew the most logical conclusion.
Wow! Now you just insulted him and called him stupid. And I'm the one with all the thumbs down!?!?!?
Its all about your Sensei. If you feel that you are not being trained Properly talk to your sensei. USSD and ZUltimate both have the exact same formate to teach the basic art of self defence. Once you reach Brown and or Black which take 5 to 7 years in this Art you are invited to train with more advance fighters. The Masters are the Real Deal. But like anything it takes commitment, dedication and focus.
if you think your not being taught properley then go somewhere else, you cant judge by play fighting someone who does a different art and has 5 times as much experience.does sound like a mcdojo though.
