Do dealerships do credit checks?
I am in need of a new car within a week or two. I can afford a pretty high car payment and I can put like $300 down on a used car. My problem is that my credit rating is not very high so getting a car loan is probably not going to happen. I have never had to file bankruptcy, have something repossessed, or I have never been in credit card debt. Do dealerships do credit checks and if they do, would they look around that and work with me? I am in need of a car very badly because mine is about shot.

Yes, they do. Bottom line is they want to sell you a car so they will try to find a loan for you. You might not like the terms but most used car dealers can get you a loan if you, at least, have a job.
$300 down? That's not going to get you much.
Your yearly income has a lot to do with this. It's not just about credit.
