Moving to Colorado Springs...?

My husband and I have been discussing moving to Colorado Springs from Charlotte, NC. I am originally from a part of South Carolina that isn't even on the map and doesn't have its own zip code. So needless to say.. I definitely have an accent. I think my main concern is probably adjusting to a different lifestyle. I am worried that people might look down on us for the accent, ect. I previously lived in NJ and didn't seem to have a problem there. It's just a concern along with others. I would mainly just like to know what it is like to live in the area and how people like it.

Update:

Thanks so much for the quick responses. They definitely have helped me to be less nervous lol. Also, I wanted to mention.. we plan on starting a family in the near future and so I would like to make sure that we would be moving to a nice place for raising children, ect. Is there a specific area that would be better for children?

  • You will LOVE Colorado Springs. It is gorgeous, super clean, and smack dab in the middle of a wonderful state. Don't worry about your accent. Colorado Springs is a military town with 5 military installations...so we are used to people from all over. Many military families return to live in Colorado Springs. 99% of people who live there love it. It is simply amazingly beautiful, sits right at the foot of Pikes Peak an that great view overlooks the entire city. Lots to do, many places to go in Colorado.

Edit: As to areas to raise a family...the whole metropolitan area is really family oriented. lLots of great neighborhoods. Areas south of the city are less expensive, you can get more house for the money and it is beautiful. Northern suburbs are gorgeous and more expensive. Lots of parks, swimming pools, municipal activities, nature centers for kids, excellent hospitals with fantastic maternity services. It is truly an ideal city.

  • I lived there for over 20 years and wish i could move back. I really miss the snow and the mountains.

There are many different cultures there. Having a southern accent shouldn't be a problem , for the most part. And if any one has a problem with it, it's their problem. You can't change who you are.

I wish you much enjoyment there. It is a wonderful area if you get out and look around.
