distance word problems algebra word?

Mr Rush and Mr Slow leave the same airport flying in opposite directions.Mr. Rush flies 600 mph, and Mr Slow flies 320mph. How many hours will each have to have flown when they are 1380 miles apart?

Need Variable stands for, the solution to equation with answer to variable.

Comments

  • let the time taken for them to be 1380 miles apart = t hours

    The distance traveled by Rush = time* rate = 600t miles

    The distance traveled by Slow = 320t

    Thus 600t + 320t = 1380

    920t = 1380

    t = 1380/920

    = 1.5 hours

  • Mr Rush= 600 mph

    Mr Slow= 320 mph

    You want see how far apart they are going per hours. So if Mr Rush is doing 600 and Mr Slow 320, they are travelling 920 miles away from each other per hours. Now use that and set it to a ratio

    920 (miles)

    ----

    60 (minutes in one hour)

    Set that equal to 1380/x

    cross multiple and x=90

    so 90 minutes or an hour and a half.

  • permit the time taken to realize the trip spot = x hours So the time taken to return to the beginning component = 7 - x hours consequently 40x = 30 (7-x) 40x = 210 - 30x 40x + 30x = 210 70x = 210 x = 210/70 = 3 So John took 3 hours time to realize the trip spot the area travelled = Time * velocity = 3 * 40 = one hundred twenty miles entire distance travelled = one hundred twenty + one hundred twenty = 240 miles

  • Distance apart = 600t+320t=920t. (t is time in hours)

    Solve 1380=920t for t, t=1.5hours
