Three friends check into a motel for the night and the clerk tells them the bill is $30, payable in advance. So, they each pay the clerk $10 and go to their room. A few minutes l8er, the clerk realizes he has made an error and overcharged the trio by $5. He asks the bellhop to return $5 to the three friends who had just checked in. The bellhop sees this as an opportunity to make $2 as he reasons that the three friends would have a tough time dividing $5 evenly among them; so he decides to tell them that the clerk mad a mistake of only $3, giving a dollar back to each of ther friends. He pockets the left over $2 and goes home for the day!!!!!! Now, each of the three friends gets a dollar back, thus they each paid $9 for the room which is a total of $27 for the night. We know the bellhop pocketed $2 and adding that to the $27 dollars, you get $29, not $30 which was originally spent period. Where did the other dollar go???????? ANSWER FOR 10 PTS QUIK!!!!!!!!!!

They payed 30 dollars at first. The clerk gave them back 5 dollars but the bellboy pockets 2 dollars, therefore, the clerk has 25 dollars, the bellboy has 2 dollars and the trio has 3 dollars, adding up to 30 dollars.
In the question it says they payed 9 dollars when they really didn't.. When they got 5 dollars back, they actually each payed 8 dollars and 1/3 of a dollar.

That's the mistake there. SUBTRACT the $2 from the $27 to get $25, the charge for the room. Nothing is missing.
well... the problem here is the text is flawed.. probably meant to CONFUSE u .. it said "thus they each paid 9$" ... how can they pay 9 dollars each ... if they first paid 25 ( and waiting to get 5 back) .... and then then get 3 more... 25+3 = 28... and then the bellhop takes 2.. thats 30...
total given was 30.
minus 5 = 25
plus 3 = 28 not 27
9+9+9=27
the bellhop took 3 not 2
