Adobe Photoshop vs Ulead PhotoImpact?
What are the main differences in these two products? Does one really need the expensive Photoshop CS2 for basic Web development needs (web photo optimization) and home use? Is Photoshop mostly for professionals who work in the print industry (ie>Magazines)? What, exactly, can Photoshop offer that PhotoImpact doesn't?

You are correct. Photoshop is a high end software designed for the needs of professional graphic artists, photographers, broadcasters, etc. Many of the masking, cloning and alpha abilities, as well as other features simply cannot be found in other products.
Photoimpact is an excellent software. It's great for consumers and web designers. If you need something basic, with some outstanding features, go for Photoimpact. If you need to be able to manipulate artwork in any way imaginable, then you'll need Photoshop.
Paint shop pro has similar qualities as photoshop though not as versatile ... you can have a look at it.
Photoimpact is good , but I M not so used to it.
Adobe takes the cake.. Its the number one.. you dont need anything else once you have the suite.
