Its good but no competiton for the Core2Duo's or AMD X2's, just because its a dual core at 2.8ghz doesn't necessarly mean its great.
For gaming Core2Duo's offer significantly better peformance. Pentium D is quite old now in the world of cpu's. You can still game with it but of course there is better performance elsewhere.
It's fine. I'm running a 1.0 GHz PIII with 1.5 GBs of RAM and a 256 MB video card with a surround sound audio card. It runs on Xubuntu and is very fast. I would suggest RAM and a good Video card and your computer should be good for a few years.
The D's are budget chips they offer pretty great performance but they consume copious amounts of electricity and run a little hotter then I have ever been comfortable with.
