If you can tell the foreigner about the specialities of Canberra, the Australia's capital, what will you tell them? What is the most impressive of Canberra? Thanks so much.
I actually live in Canberra and the link to Wikipedia that others have provided gives you a good insite into the city. The only thing I could add is that Canberra is home to over 50 foreign Embassies or Consulates. The city is clean and well planned with little or no slum areas. A great percentage of employees work in the Government. Because of its isolation from the big cities and its relatively small population our choice of products is not as good as those in the major cities and most international acts (band etc) do not come here.
Parliament House: a must see for all Australians (or tourists from overseas!)
Other good attractions are:
The National Museum: Not like your normal museum. More modern and fun.
The National Gallery: For your traditional arts experience
Lake Burley Griffin: take a paddle-boat ride, or hop on a bicycle and ride around!
Questacon: If your young at heart, or have kids, they'll love it! Its a giant maze of games and fun (even if your not a kid!!!)
The City Centre: for shopping and restaurants.
SUMMERNATS (early January) - a car festival and one of Canberra's biggest tourist attractions/events. Worth seeing if your into cars, burnouts, and women.
The Multicultural Festival (February) - lots to see, taste, dance, eat, smell, experience, in the city
And finally, Telstra tower. Overlook the whole city with a birds eye view!
Canberra the Nations Capital of Australia is a great place to live and visit as well.
We have lots to offer all year round such as festivals, big events, markets, galleries, shopping, nightlife such as clubbing, National tourist attractions such as the Australian War Memorial, National Museum of Australia, National Gallery of Australia, Parliament House, Old Parliament House, Lake Burley Griffin and lots of other things you can see and do while your in our great city of ours.
We have big events such as Floriade - Australia's Floral Festival which is on in spring during mid September and October each year, National Folk Festival in Easter, Royal Canberra Show in late February, Australia Day Live concert, Canberra Day on the 10th of March each year, Summernats Car Festival in early January, National Multicultral Festival in mid February.
You can go for walks or ride a bike around Lake Burley Griffin or hire paddle boats or canoes and go for a cruise on the lake. There's lots of small community events in each area of Canberra, wineries, bike riding, bush walking, skateboarding, all kinds of sports such as cricket, AFL, basketball, motorsports, camping, hang gliding, triathalon, swimming, football, and lots of other things to do.
The population of Canberra at the moment is around 325,000 residents and we are a friendly city.
