Multiple Processor!!?

what's the different between duo processor and dual processor!! and for servers that using 10 processor, how does it work. I meant is there a motherboard that have 10 slots for CPU, or is it just like having 10 PC (10mthboard and 10cpu) and connect them together!!

  • Duo Processor means 2 CPUs on one chip using one socket.

They are not "virtual" processors but actually 2 CPUs on the same chip. They are designed this way to keep the production cost low for the chip as well as for the mainboard they are installed on.

It is literally the same as having 2 separate processors:

"Having two CPUs (and a motherboard capable of hosting them) is more expensive, so computer engineers came up with another approach: take two CPUs, smash them together onto one chip, and presto! The power of two CPUs, but only one socket on the motherboard. This keeps the price of the motherboards reasonable, and allows for the power of two CPUs (also known as cores) with a cost that is less than two separate chips. This, in a nut shell, is what the term "Dual Core" refers to - two CPUs put together on one chip."

Dual Processor means 2 physical CPUs each using it's own socket.

Yes, there are motherboards that have 2, 4, 8, & even 16 separate CPU's on the same motherboard.

They do not need to have 16 motherboards connected together, nor is that a common practice.

Clustering several PCs together can form one more powerful computer.

    Defenition :

Connecting two or more computers together in such a way that they behave like a single computer

  • Ok dual processor means running on 2 processors and duo processor means 1 processor which run like 2 virtual processors. Yes server may have 10 mainboard and 10 processor to run depands on wat type of server configuration or setup they use nowadays INTEL try to make 1 processor that can do 2 processor job with the name 'duo' processor
